I’m a big fan of the community college route to save some money for years one and two of college, but there is undeniably a college affordabilty crisis.

State support of public colleges continues to decline and the price of education and housing has far outpaced wage growth. If you look at the numbers over the past 50 years, paying for a college education has never been more difficult.

A summer job and a tight budget just don’t cut it anymore.

By: BG Davis https://studentloansherpa.com/irresponsible-borrower-myth/comment-page-1/#comment-12045 Sun, 08 Oct 2023 18:53:31 +0000 https://studentloansherpa.com/?p=17098#comment-12045 this is interesting but fails to address the main point: why did they borrow money in the first place? it used to be possible to avoid borrowing by: going to a state school (start with community college which is almost free), living with roommates in low-quality housing, not going out to party or eat or drink, working in the summer, getting scholarships. if this is no longer possible, someone needs to explain in specific detail why. otherwise it’s all just empty talk.
