Ok thank you for your response. Had I continued paying over the last 5-6 years there would be hardly anything left to forgive anyway so just bad timing for me regarding Congress finally fixing the problem that turned away many deserving borrowers.

There were some borrowers who were able to get refunds for “extra” payments they made during the Covid-19 payment and interest pause, but I don’t know of any way to go back many years to get a refund like what you are asking.

There are many borrowers who were in a situation like yours, but I just don’t see any option for recovery.

My original loan services Sallie Mae never informed me that my loan would not be eligible. I paid off the balance of my student loans 10 years early because I felt that there was no hope in getting the $15,000 left forgiven after I had already paid $26,000 off over the 15 year period. I had an extended 25 year loan. Now I’m pretty angry that Congress finally fixed this issue after the fact and wonder if there is any way to recover that money since I should have been eligible?
